Ms. Jessica Gill-Sekhon pursued a career in criminal defense from the start. She earned her undergraduate degree from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, where she double-majored in Criminology and Psychology. As an undergraduate student, she discovered her passion for criminal defense and for defending the rights of the accused. Ms. Gill-Sekhon was admitted to the University of Buffalo School of Law on a scholarship and was awarded her JD degree in 2018.

While in law school, Ms. Gill-Sekhon was actively involved in the Civil Rights and Transparency Clinic, where she worked on high-stakes litigation, including suing the Department of Defense over privacy violations of veterans. She also gained valuable experience in immigration law, assisting clients in obtaining legal status in the United States. Additionally, she participated in the Innocence and Justice Project, Prisoners’ Legal Services, and Prisoners’ Legal Services of New York, deepening her commitment to protecting the rights of the incarcerated and wrongfully convicted.

After law school, Ms. Gill-Sekhon began her legal career at Mountain Law, a law firm in Mount Vernon providing public defense services to individuals accused of crimes in Mount Vernon and Burlington. It was there that her passion for criminal defense further developed as she represented clients facing a variety of charges and fought to protect their constitutional rights.

She later joined the Skagit County Public Defender’s Office, where she spent several years handling adult misdemeanor cases and assisting in high-level felony defense. Recognized for her tenacity and skill in the courtroom, she was recruited to join Victory Legal in 2023, where she continues to provide aggressive and client-focused representation.

Ms. Gill-Sekhon volunteers with the Whatcom County Teen Court program as an attorney mentor, guiding and supporting youth advocates as they gain hands-on experience in the legal system and learn the principles of justice and advocacy.

Ms. Gill-Sekhon joined Powers Law Group PLLC in 2025, and now represents clients charged with a wide variety of crimes, including DUI, assault, sexual assault, and child molestation.
