Skagit County Criminal Defense Lawyer

Do you need an attorney to help overcome the challenges of navigating the criminal justice system? The staff at Powers Law Group is ready to help you with our aggressive work and stellar reputation in the legal world.

With over 19 years of experience in Washington, Powers Law Group represents clients using legal research, knowledge, and courtroom skills. From DUIs to vehicular homicides, major drug trafficking charges to minor domestic disputes, Powers Law Group handles it all. We practice in Skagit County, including the municipal courts of Mount Vernon, Burlington, Anacortes, and Sedro Woolley. Our firm also practices in Island County and Whatcom County.

Powers Law Group may be able to help after a conviction, too. Do you have an old conviction affecting your life? Maybe it is limiting your employment prospects? You may be eligible to vacate or expunge old convictions. We can also see if you are eligible to get your firearm rights restored. Call today and ask about our vacate, expunge, or firearm rights restoration process.

Our firm works hard for our clients; some of our past case outcomes include outright dismissals, not guilty verdicts, and pleading to a lesser charge that saved a person's job, marriage, or child custody rights. Cases are litigated with the goals of each client in mind; whether that be to save a Commercial Driver's License, retain the right to bear arms and hunt, allow the client to keep working, or avoid serving jail time. Our firm is a boutique law firm- we accept a limited number of clients so that we can remain in close contact and devote the necessary time to each case. Call us if you need a criminal defense lawyer in Skagit County and the surrounding areas, whether your case be under investigation, charged, or in post-conviction status.

Driving Under the Influence

If you are charged or accused of Driving Under the Influence, you need to speak to an experienced DUI attorney immediately. A charge of DUI will adversely affect your life. As established Skagit County DUI lawyers, we will prepare you for each part of the process and fight to protect your rights.

Powers Law Group will prepare your case as if it were going to trial. The attorney will sit down with you, discuss your case, and review the discovery with you. Driving Offenses

Over the course of a lifetime, a person will spend years of their life in a car. A large portion of the crimes in the State of Washington are driving offenses, including Reckless Driving, Negligent Driving, Hit and Run, Vehicular Assault, and Vehicular Homicide. These charges can affect a person's ability to drive, automobile insurances rates, and employment. Our attorneys are experienced in dealing with these issues and litigating your case to obtain the best outcome possible.

There are two levels of driving offenses. Some crimes, such as Reckless Driving, Negligent Driving, Driving While License Suspended, and Hit and Run, are misdemeanors, which are handled in the municipal courts. If you have not been in trouble before, a possible outcome is a small fine, possible driving suspension, and community service in lieu of jail.

The second, and more serious, level of driving offense is a felony. Charges such as Vehicular Assault, Hit and Run Attended, Attempting to Elude, Felony DUI, and Vehicular Homicide are tried in Superior Court. Prison time is a possibility in felony sentences. We understand the possible consequences our clients face in these cases and work with our clients to resolve the matter in the best possible outcome.

Domestic Violence

Something as simple as a shove or a slammed door can change your life when charged as a domestic violence crime. Powers Law Group works with each of our clients to limit the stigma that a domestic violence charge carries. The consequences of a domestic violence conviction can include a person losing his or her job, housing, and/or right to bear arms. A domestic violence classification on a charge usually increases the possible jail or prison time at sentencing. Our criminal defense lawyers know how to approach these cases in each of the municipal courts under the different judges.

An experienced criminal defense lawyer knows how to protect you from your initial meeting. Our attorneys will meet with each person individually and begin the defense preparation immediately. Most domestic violence charges require a person respond to the prosecutor trying to impose a No Contact Order against the other person. This can break up a family, bar a person from their home, forfeit their ability to have a firearm, and could terminate employment. Our attorneys know how to limit these actions, placing their client in the best position possible to defend against a conviction.

There are thousands of crimes that exist in Washington. Our attorneys represent people in criminal defense cases for Theft, Drug Possession, Criminal Trespass, Forgery, Fraud, Embezzlement, Fish and Wildlife Violation (Hunting / Fishing Without a License), and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, just to name a few. If you are charged with any crime in Skagit County, Island County, Whatcom County, Snohomish County, or any of their municipalities, please call our office to schedule a consultation to see how we can best serve you.
